16 again?

Most of you are probably a student. Most of you also with an age between 18 and 25.When I ask you now: if you could choose, what age would you prefer? Curious as I am, I did this and asked several people the question above. All of them were students and many of them answered  that they wished they 16 again. Why 16 you might wonder? Well, 16 is the age everything was new and everything started. You started going out, most of the time with a fake ID (I know you did). You started exploring everything and a whole new time led ahead…

Now think ahead. If I would ask you that question again when you are 30, would you still give the same answer? I don’t think you would. At least, I hope you don’t. I hope you will say that the moment you are living now, is the best time of your live. Because right now it is the best time of your live. I have written about this before, but I would like to emphasize it once more: from now on it will only get worse. And if you don’t think you will say this is the best time of my live, when you are 30: start living :).

Fraudulent students being caught!

If you are a student and you live on your own, you’ll receive more Student Allowence than you would living at your parent’s. That’s nice, because free money never hurts. Off course there are some students who take disadvantage of that. These leeches live a luxurious life at their parents while they are registered at a different address! Luckily the government announced a man hunt on these students earlier this year.

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail? A plea for freedom

Go back to that moment you had to leave primary school. A new, exciting, unknown time was laying ahead. I remember my teacher saying: this was the greatest part of your life. From now on you will get homework and tests. Actually, you didn’t want to leave your friends behind and step into the unknown, because it could only get worse. High school, a new chapter of your life. Boys, girls, parties, trying to enter clubs with a fake ID, you name it. What a wonderful time and again, you didn’t really want to leave all your friends behind. At High school it was great and you thought: it can only get worse. Again… And again, you were wrong. Student life was about to commence and if this is not the best time of your life, then you’re doing something wrong.

Carnival in Tilburg: peeing in a jar

Carnival: one of those yearly traditions nobody really knows where it originates from. In Holland, only the southern part of the country celebrates this tradition and still nobody really  knows why. What many people do know is how to celebrate it. Get dressed as pirate, monkey or whatsoever. On the date of writing, carnival is almost over and for me this is always a time of reflection. It was my first time in Tilburg and I began to wonder why everybody calls it “Kruikenstad” (In English: city of jars). You, at least if you are a citizen of Kruikenstad, are called a “Kruikezeiker”. In English this means somebody who pees in a jar. But now, after the festivities, it is time to change the alcohol and ignorance for some more knowledge about why we are called like that!

You’re so beautiful; you could be a part-time model

There you are, sitting in the Mensa at the University. Or more likely in the pub but maybe that’s just me. Anyway, while you’re eating your sandwich (or that one beer), you suddenly see a few feet away that nice girl (or man off course, it depends on your preference) with whom you have always wanted to talk but somehow never got the chance. You need to make a move! Now what?

Friggatriskaidekaphobia

Friggatriskaidekaphobia: the fear of Friday the 13th.

I am not a superstitious person. Not at all. I don’t  mind walking under a ladder which stands against a wall. The number 13 means nothing than 12 + 1 for me and if I had counted all the mirrors and others glass objects I broke, I would be unlucky for the rest of my life. At least, if I had been superstitious. However, if there is one thing my student life in Tilburg led me to believe, it is the magic power of “one beer”...

Homer Simpson

Let’s start with Homer. I simply expect you know him. If you don’t, shame on you! Why are you still reading this blog! Go on a quest using Google, YouTube and Wikipedia and do not return until you’ve learned to love him! Because besides the fact Homer is very yellow, he once or twice simply gets it right. It was him who spoke the legendary words:” "To alcohol! The cause of... and solution to... all of life's problems"

I drink to that. And ah, there’s my bridge! We can’t start a blog about the life of a student in Tilburg without dedicating a few words to alcohol. You want to know where you can drink the cheapest, so here are a few tips:
